for your eyes only
Sonie’s is a fusion japanese / italian restaurant. There are two branches in bangkok, one in sukumvit soi 31 and another at J avenue in thonglor. The food there is wonderfull and the menu offers some very unique creations. One dish I always order is the sonies pizza. Its a special roll (maki) with tempura batter. Unfortunately I was forced to stop taking when the food came, I guess there really concerned about keeping there recipes a secret. Anyhow I don’t there are enough people reading this blog to even give a fuck about how to make the damn thing or where Sonies is located in Bangkok city. Well if anyone does have a chance then please make sure you go and check it out, just make sure you don’t bring your camera.

spicy catfish salad or Yam pla dook foo is my most favourite thai dish. The ingredients such as mango, onions, chilli, lemons and of course deep fried catfish are very hard to prepare. Its easy to find this dish but its hard to find a place that can prepare it well. The catfish needs to be deep fried so that it is crunchy and not chewy. The mango’s needs to be fresh and cut in big slices, some places tend to put carrots or too much lemon grass to substitute for the mango. But I think thats a bad idea and it doesnt taste good. New sri Fah restaurant on sukumvit soi 33 prepares the dish wonderfully. I have yet to find a place around the sukumvit area that can beat there cat fish salad.

Once again my shitty photography skills have failed me. I love writing about food but its hard to get an idea about what I ate especially when the only evidence of food is the scraps. Anyhoo I went to malaysia and had a bit of bbq sting ray. I think its a delicacy that everyone should try, even though you might have to be able to stomache the fact that the sting ray like a shark has had its fins cut off while its still alive and most likely thrown back in the water or trash bin and left to die. Maybe its a good idea to catch your own and just make sure that you either kill it or use full use of the fish. I know I shouldnt be saying this but im sure a quick death would be better then a slow one. Anyhoo heres the recipe.

There are two steamboat/suki restaurant chains in Thailand that have stood the test of time and they are Coca and MK suki. Despite both chains being extremely popular MK towers over its main competetitor Coca in terms of number of restaurants in Thailand. I guess in many ways one can say it is almost like mcdonalds. Even still, the quality of food that can be found at MK is suprerb. Fresh and always clean the food is given to your table raw, it is then that the food must be boiled in a specially designed pot on the table. Its fun to eat, and its a social thing as well. Iits great to have this meal sitting and talking with friends. Health wise MK suki is great because your boiling and not frying. So after the meal you still feel fresh and not as if you’ve been in a bbq shacks for the whole day. I love the ordering the large portion of the vegatble plate. Comes with morning glory, cabbage, carrots, leeks, baby corn, mushrooms and tofu. Theres an MK and a kentucky fried chicken right next door to my place and I’m always more then happy to chose the tasty, cheap and most of all healthy meal over KFc.

One of my all time favourite deliveries is food by phone. The online restaurant delivery service has everything from indian food to irish pub food. Latel I’ve been eating quite a bit of vegetarian. One great italian restaurant is Basilico. So far they have a few branches in sukumvit so its easy to stop by and enjoy the food. where ever you maybe. They make an awsome margherita pizza, but whats best is there Vegetarian pizza. Now I now milk is considered to be bad to some because of the way cows are mistreated. I think for now I have to be just a vegetarian rather then a vegan. I love cheese and I since the vegetarian pizza has mozzeralla cheese as a topping I guess I’ll admit that I’ll never be able to make to vegan status. The rest of the pizza’s toppings are onions, chilli peppers, poricini mushrooms, peas and asparagus. Great food for a movie night when chilling with friends, also wonderfull when I am hosting the radio show and haven’t got them to head out to eat.

A month ago I received an email from venus- no not the planet but a Dnb promoter based in seoul Korea. She invited me to play at Konkrete Jungle Seoul. I had never played in korea before and so I gladly accepted the offer. I am also a big fan of korean food so I was really looking forward to the trip. So I bought a ticket and off I went. I arrived in seoul at 5 in the morning and it was cold and wet when I got out of the airport. I was told that a hoodie would be enough to keep me warm on the trip, luckily I did pack an extra jacket. The weather reminded me of vancouver. From the airport I took a bus to Seoul station, from there I took a taxi to the hotel. I forget what the hotel name was but it was located near Seoul Tower. The bad thing is in korea hotel check in is at 12 afternoon. So I was left with out fuck all to do til then. Fortunatley I was allowed to leave my bags at the counter and the hotel reception. After that I then decided to take my own tour around the city. As I expected there were tons of bbq restaurants in the area. I was in bbq heaven! Unfortunately it was 7 in the morning and not one of the restaurants were open. So I continued to walk around town. The one thing I noticed about seoul is that alot of the area’s reminded me of downtown tokyo, but the obvious difference is that the signs were written in Korean. I don’t know how it happened but after wandering around I ended up walking to the Jongmyo cunfucian shrine. I checked out the shrine and it was cool though I wish I had a tour guide to explain what the different buildings supposed to be meant for. After the shrine I headed back to the hotel and I was finally allowed into my room. After a few hours sleep it was time for me to meet up with the Seoul crew and I was going to be picked up at the hotel one of korea’s most talented Drum n Bass producers- J Path. We went to to have dinner with the rest of the Seoul Dnb crew in the Itaewon district. Obviously the food for that night was K bbq. I was really afraid to ask to for seconds cuz obviously I didnt want to be rude or anything. Normally I eat alot and I think that whole weekend I had to cut down on what I ordered, I didnt want to look like a greedy fucker haha. After dinner we headed to Jpath’s studio. I gotta admit I would definitely rate him as one of asia’s best kept secrets because I’ve met alot of really good producers, but I think Jpath is miles ahead of everyone else in terms of production. I really think he needs to get signed to a label soon!

The first night I was there I didn’t go out because I was still tired from the flight and I really needed some sleep. The second day It was really nice and sunny outside, and was freezing cold too. The air was cold and crisp, the kind of weather I was hoping for. It was also time for me to check out of the first hotel and move into the second and much more luxurious hotel. The Seokyo hotel is located in the trendy district of Hongdae, and is a hotel that all of Venus’ guest all stay in. That day I had the chance to have lunch with an old friend of mine whom a very long time ago I used to date her sister. So it was good to see her and also have the most fucking expensive korean bbq I have ever had in my life!! Yeah I got suckered into a tourist trap situation and lost big…oh well its gotta happen sometime. After lunch I met up with Ahmed, who is also working with Venus and is part of her crew. He took me around to shop for clothes and kicks. As far as shopping is concerned Seoul has quite a lot of nice gear .. I was really impressed by Onitsuka Tiger shop. Unfortunately I was trying to stay on budget with this trip, but I love my clothes so I ended buying a whole bunch of shit!!!!! After shopping it was then time to head to back to the hotel and get ready for the party. Now previously before arriving in Seoul I prepared a CD of some thai drum n bass to play at the party. Normally I really don’t like playing cd’s and this time I kept on reminding myself to bring the cd along with me. I would find out later how forgetfull I am. By the time I arrived at the it was already 11;30, time to get started. And to get the night going it was Jpath . After J warmed up the decks for an hour, it was finally my turn to get on the decks. The venue wasn’t as packed as everyone wanted it to be. Either way it didn’t bother me at all. In fact it made me feel a bit more at ease, as there wasn’t so much pressure on my me to perform. It was easier for me to get drunk and brock out to the tunes. Which I kinda regret though, I should not drink so much when I’m on the decks, but drinking just makes everything so much better I think.. well at least it makes you relax… I need to find a better way to relax myself., yoga maybe? I don’t really know what peoples thought of my set as there were moments when I thought everything was going great and then all of a sudden the floor was empty. It was on and off in the way for the whole night. I dunno maybe they liked it darker or more techy, but I played most of my reggae style dnb. I thought that was a good idea, as perhaps it could give the club a warmer vibe. Well I guess everyone has there off days, I’m hoping the promoters there were satisfied of my performance though.Oh and when I wanted to play the cd which was the DJ suv remix of Fon by pc lab, i fucking forgot the dam thing in my hotel room!

The last day of the trip I spent with Venus shopping in the Yongsan district for a camera. I know we have huge electronic department stores in Bangkok but this place was quite huge. It was packed with all the dope ass camera’s one can lay there eyes on. I honestly didnt have a clue on what kind of camera I wanted. Eventually I ended buying a Olympus camera. It was cool because it had this function where if you smile the camera automatically takese the picture for you. That camera will probobly come in handy when I am pissed drunk again and am too drunk to take pictures. After shopping we went to meet up with the rest of the crew and have my last korean dinner. It was an awsome dinner, and just from me thinking how much the meal would cost in Bangkok made me relish the food even more so. The next day I checked out of my lovely hotel in the morning. I had one last lunch with Venus. We found this awsome sushi place by the hotel. Ok and I guess your wondering why the hell did I have sushi, but trust me the sushi at this place was dope. They even had there own korean style sushi as well there. ALso the meal cost nothing when compared to Bangkok prices. After lunch I said good bye to Venus and hopped on a bus to the airport. In all I had a really great time in Seoul and I really hope I can go back there and play real soon.
Big shouts to venus, ahmed, j path and the club cargo crew

Broke my thumb skateboarding. This is the second time I broke a bone at the esplanade skatepark. I tried a boneless on the flatbottom of the mini bowl. My front foot slipped off the board when I landed making my back foot snap the tail, the board then flipped in the air, hit my head and came landing right smack on my thumb. I think I am getting some serious bad luck now. I am so dissapointed!

First up I promised myself that I ‘d eat more heatlthy food this year. I ‘m also trying to become a vegetarian. So far I have done none of those things. Ok so its valentines day and oh well I might as well take a break from eating vegetables. My girlfriend and I decided to go to her favourite japanese bbq restaurant Iroha. Its tucked away in a backstreet in soi thonglor. I love there choice of quality meats and also the atmosphere feels just like japan.. I guess thats why the restaurant is full of japanese expats. Every time we go its always packed full of people and usually we have to wait for a table. The only problem about getting any quality food in bangkok is that it most likely had to be imported into the country. Everything from fish, to beef and even sometimes quality poultry costs alot of money.

1. Lose weight
I need to lose weight because since breaking my leg my evil beer belly has decided to come back. Before the broken bone, I was skating 3 to 4 times a week. So much that even the kids at the skatepark were getting bored of seeing me there. I was doing good and feeling great but until I broke my leg then thats when I started to feel and look like shit. The cast is off now so I will have a fresh start. Hopefully I can get things to the way they were before.
2. smoke less
Obviously smoking cigarettes is bad for you health. It also stains your teeth and makes them yellow. This is a very disgusting side effect of smoking and I hope that I can try to rid myself from this very bad habit. I also want to smoke less weed. In the past few months I haven’t smoked any, well except for new years, but other then that I’ve not been hitting the spliffs. I hope I can keep this up.
3. eat less junkfood and more healthy food
I like burritos, hamburgers, hotdogs, baby back ribs etc. These things make me very fat, so much that I can’t even wear my old clothes anymore. I am hoping to get rid of this problem by eating some vegetarian food. The only problme is that there isn’t that much vegetarian food in bkk. I think there are some but I dont know where.
4. spend more time in the studio
I say this all the time but I really want to do this year. Not only just making beats but spending more time mixing and scratching on the turntables. I hope that this year will be a great year for Dubstep in Thailand.
5. meditation and dharma
I hope to as well spend more time practicing meditation and studying buddhist philosophy and even the philosophy of all religions. In the past I do read about it but I need to try to put all those theories into practice. I will definitley make a better effort this year and get my self sorted in that area.
